Get a Handle on Your Marketing Funnel: Why The Big Picture Matters

If you’re in the business of selling digital products or services, there’s no getting around the fact that your marketing funnel needs to produce leads and sales if you’re going to succeed.

In addition to generating sales, however, your funnel needs to generate leads so that you have new clients coming in on a regular basis.

If your funnel fails at either of these two tasks, it will severely hamper your ability to generate revenue over the long term, which can be devastating for your business.

Fortunately, there are ways to ensure that you understand the big picture in order to better manage your digital marketing funnel.

Show & Tell:

As a Show & Tell & Sell marketer, you must show how your product or service empowers your prospective customer.

If you want to sell, it’s not enough to just tell them why they need it. You have to show them how using your solution will solve their problem.

To do that, you need to know what their problem is in the first place. It all starts with research and analysis of who your customers are and what problems they face.

Once you have that information down pat, then it becomes easier to use visuals like videos and infographics as part of your strategy.

The best way to achieve success is through testing out different approaches until you find one that resonates with prospects and generates more leads than anything else.

The bottom line is this: Know thy customer!

If we put our message in front of someone, we need to understand them.

The intent with your prospect is very in their face, so to speak. You want them to sign up for something like a trial or some other marketing offer that you're running.

The idea is this- do what you can to get prospects as close as possible.

The closer they are, the more likely they are to convert into customers and then refer new customers!

This is why I say that just like you build a customer avatar, you, as a marketer, need to be a profiler.

Know thy customer because if you don't know who your audience is and where they hang out, how will you know how to find them?

When building any funnel, big picture matters because if there's no one at the end of it to buy your product or service, it doesn't matter how good it is.

What Is a Lead?

Your initial goal with a lead is to "JUST GET THE NUMBER."

But what is a lead? Is it an email address, phone number, LinkedIn profile, or something else? How many leads do you need before you can make any money off them?

These are all important questions that need to be answered.

If you're going to spend your time generating leads and making funnels, they need to generate some sort of profit.

The big picture will help you determine how much time and effort should go into generating these leads and if they are worth pursuing at all.

This is just another reason why your prospect is going to need special attention. In fact, you need to be aware of who your customer is.

This goes back to the reason we, as marketers, must become profilers. And no, I don't mean profiling people by their race and religion (though this can also be done).

Profiling means being able to identify who your prospect is so you know which type of marketing message would resonate best with them.

The Importance of Metrics

You can’t measure what you don’t track, and this is especially true in digital marketing.

Understanding which channels are driving leads and conversions is key to making sure your marketing budget goes where it matters most.

This is why I love sharing tips and tricks with you guys to help you succeed.

Squeeze Page: You Have One Job

You have one job. That's it. If you can't do that, then your funnel is broken. If your funnel is broken, then nobody will know about your business or what it offers. You won't be able to make any sales.

And if you can't make any sales, then there's no way you're going to be successful at this whole marketing thing.

So your one job? Fixing that funnel of yours so that leads go through and actually become customers!

And how do we do that? With a squeeze page.

The first step in fixing up your lead conversion rate is having a compelling offer that entices people to enter their email address.

They should know exactly what they'll get out of entering their email address by reading all the way to the bottom of your landing page.

They shouldn't need to click next or learn more before they understand what they'll get by entering their information - because doing anything other than providing value right now means giving them too many options.

How Do We Know Which Path to Take?
